The City of Hilliard is partnering with the Franklin County Engineer’s Office and the City of Columbus to extend Riggins Road between Avery Road and Wilcox Road.  The project includes a traffic signal at Avery Road, a single lane roundabout at Wilcox Road, street lighting, underground utilities, and off-street multi-use paths to better accommodate the needs of pedestrians and bicycles.  The western portion of the project is within Columbus jurisdiction, and the eastern portion of the project is within Hilliard jurisdiction.  The Franklin County Engineer’s Office (FCEO) is managing the project, which is scheduled for construction beginning in the summer of 2016.  Construction information will be provided by FCEO on their website here.

The intersection of Wilcox Road and Riggins Road will be closed for approximately 60 days during the summer of 2016 to construct the roundabout.  Traffic will be detoured using Tuttle Crossing Boulevard, Britton Parkway, and Hayden Run Road.  Access to the Noor Islamic Cultural Center and Columbus Fire Station 34 will be to and from the north only during the closure.

This project brings the northwest Central Ohio area one step closer to getting vital roadway infrastructure in place to support the transportation needs of the region.  Within the next few years, Hayden Run Boulevard in Columbus will extend eastward, over the railroad tracks, and connect to Riggins Road at Avery Road.  When this last link is opened to traffic, a continuous roadway, uninterrupted by train traffic, will connect from Cosgray Road to Britton Parkway and shift a significant amount of traffic off of Hayden Run Road.
