Hilliard City Council put the brakes on an administrative initiative to hire the engineering firm Burgess & Niple to determine whether any modifications to the city’s double-roundabout intersection on Main Street could reduce the number of accidents. City Council members tabled the resolution Feb. 27 and asked public-services director Butch Seidle to arrange for representatives from Burgess & Niple to attend the March 13 meeting to discuss the issue.

Errant 911 call prompts cell-tower audit

A recent complaint about a misrouted 911 call in Hilliard revealed a potential lapse in the local emergency-response system. An audit of the routing data for hundreds of cellular towers in Franklin County will be conducted to determine if any 911 calls placed from cellphones are being misrouted, according to Jay Somerville, the bureau manager of the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center in Dublin.

Norwich firefighter helps save a life at son’s volleyball game

Norwich Township fire Chief Jeff Warren said the humble nature of firefighter Dan Buelow might prevent him from accepting any responsibility for saving the life of an 81-year-old man last weekend in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. So Warren said he would see that Buelow, a 23-year veteran of the department and a 1990 graduate of Hilliard High School, is recognized.

Erb initiates intersection parley with Columbus

The busy junctions of Scioto Darby Road with Leap and Walcutt roads are in shared jurisdictions, which means any improvements must be accompanied by collaboration. Hilliard City Councilman Joe Erb said he doesn’t need to be told that the intersection of Scioto Darby and Walcutt roads is less than efficient — he hears it almost every day.
