People riding their bikes outside

Closed Playgrounds Update

Posted March 26, 2020 in Community Alert by Mary Smith

Earlier this week, Hilliard City Schools and the City of Hilliard closed all playgrounds to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 through our playground equipment.

Unfortunately, both the District and the City have seen numerous incidents of people congregating in public spaces such as basketball courts, tennis courts, along trails, and in parks.

We absolutely encourage our residents to find ways to get outside, get some exercise and fresh air, but this must be done responsibly!

Please do not gather in groups, even outside. Social distancing for people of all ages is a crucial step that must be taken to curb the spread of COVID-19.And when you need to drive somewhere, be mindful of the children on bikes and families out walking. During this time there are more pedestrians out and we want to be sure everyone is safe!

Great activities might include walking your dog, riding your bike, fishing, taking a run on the Heritage Trail, or playing catch with the kids in the back yard. Activities that are unsafe would include pick-up basketball games, hanging around in groups, backyard barbecues, and the like.

We know this is difficult situation for everyone, and we’re all getting a little cabin fever. But each person who does not take social distancing seriously is literally risking their life and the lives of others.

Hilliard City Schools and the City of Hilliard encourage you to enjoy the outdoors but do so responsibly.
