Cram the Cruiser at Tree Lighting to help kids gear up for winter

Residents are invited to help local children bundle up this winter by donating to the City of Hilliard’s first Cram the Cruiser event.

The event will be held in conjunction with the city’s 30th annual Tree Lighting celebration in Old Hilliard on Sunday, Dec. 1 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. A Hilliard Division of Police officer will be at First Responders Park to collect new winter coats, gloves, scarves, and sweatpants to “cram” the cruiser full.

Those who wish to make a donation prior to the event may use collection boxes located in the lobbies inside the Safety Services Building, 5171 Northwest Parkway, Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive, and Hilliard City Hall, 3800 Municipal Way.

The goal of the event is to overflow the vehicle, said Hilliard Chief of Police Robert Fisher.

“We’re excited to kick off the giving season alongside our city partners with this new event,” said Fisher. “We know from personal experience that the Hilliard community is generous and look forward cramming a cruiser.” All collected items will be directly to K-12 students at Hilliard City Schools.
