Snow plow plowing the roads

Here’s Your Chance to Name a Snow Plow!

Posted October 21, 2021 in Uncategorized by Anna Subler

Residents are invited to name Hilliard’s 11 snow plows before the launch of a new fleet tracking software in November.

All snow plow names should be submitted to the City on Talk2Us by Thursday, Oct. 28 to be considered. If enough names are submitted, the finalists will be voted on.

Contest rules:

  • Keep all submissions “G rated”
  • Only one submission per person
  • Deadline to submit is 5 p.m. on Oct. 28
  • The City reserves the right to make the final name decisions

The winning names and their corresponding truck number will be announced in early November.

Snow paths, a new fleet tracking software, will launch later in the month. The system uses GIS technology to track the City’s snow plows, pickup trucks, leaf vacuums, and chipper trucks.

Operations Director Larry Lester said SnowPaths will help crews manage their fleet through a management dashboard.

The web application will allow residents to go online during a snow event to see each plow’s location, direction and plow and spreader status.

“Every plow is different and naming them makes it easier and more fun for us all to track,” Lester said.

Winners of the snowplow naming contest will receive “bragging rights” and the honor of seeing their name affixed to a snow plow.
