Hilliard Announces Extended Rec Camp

Hilliard Summer Rec Camp will return in 2021 with an extended 11-week program and longer hours to better accommodate working families.

The popular camp offers activities that include outdoor group games, sports, art, nature, and science for kids ages five to 11 years old. Every week has its own theme to keep things exciting – some are new, and some are favorites that return campers will recognize.

There will be two big changes that parents and campers will notice this year: six additional weeks of camp with “before camp” and “after camp” hours and COVID-19 safety protocols.

An 11-week camp allows for more themes and opportunities to connect with campers while giving parents a full-time childcare option for the summer, said Geoff Dew, Recreation Supervisor.

“We have 11 weeks of games, speakers, and themes planned,” Dew said. “I’m excited to have the opportunity to offer in-person camp this year, and I think the kids will love it.”

Campers will even see “Mr. Geoff” dressed in 11 costumes throughout the summer.

While the goal of camp has always been to provide a fun and educational experience for kids, this year COVID-19 safety protocols are a top priority.

Erin Duffee, Deputy Director of Recreation and Parks said it was important for the camp to offer in-person programs after a year of online and hybrid learning.

“We plan to follow safety guidelines from the Ohio Department of Health. All children and staff will wear masks, wash their hands often, and practice social distancing. Campers will also be split into small groups and spend a lot of time outside,” Duffee said.

Rec camp is offered 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. weekdays from June 1 through August 13 (no camp on July 2 and 5). Registration starts April 5 for Hilliard residents, April 12 for non-residents. All campers must have completed Kindergarten and be between the ages of 5 and 11 years old. Parents can register for as few as one or two weeks of camp, or the full 11 weeks. The cost is $160 a week for residents and $175 a week for non-residents. A three-month payment plan (April, May, and June) is available at checkout.
