Hilliard Council Meeting to Be Held RemotelyPosted March 20, 2020 in Uncategorized
Hilliard City Council’s regular meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 23, will be held remotely, with Council members streaming from their homes via an online service.
The City will stream this meeting live on its Facebook page to allow for public participation.
“We believe this is the best possible approach to continuing the important work of Hilliard’s municipal government while respecting social distancing and being transparent to the public,” said Andy Teater, Council President. “By streaming the meeting on Facebook live, it gives interested people the opportunity to ask appropriate questions and give their elected officials feedback into the decision-making process.”
Here’s how members of the public may participate in the meeting:
- Watch the meeting live on Facebook. It will not be streamed through the City’s standard system, but will be uploaded there (http://hilliardoh.iqm2.com/citizens/default.aspx) within a few days after the meeting.
- Email comments and questions in advance to firstname.lastname@example.org if possible. Council will receive these in advance of the meeting. The agenda is available at http://hilliardoh.iqm2.com/citizens/default.aspx.
- Ask questions or offer opinions on the Facebook feed during the meeting. City Council will be provided with relevant comments and questions at the appropriate times.
“This is new territory for the City, and we appreciate the community’s patience as we try this experiment in public engagement,” said City Manager Michelle Crandall. “As with many challenges created by social distancing, this is not ideal, but it ensures transparency and the opportunity for public participation, which is crucial to effective government.”
