Hilliard K9 Recipient of Bulletproof Vest

K9 officer Jawaak accepting new vest

A Hilliard police dog will be working more safely, following a recent gift from the Hilliard Area Chamber of Commerce (HACC).

The HACC donated a bullet- and stab-resistant vest to one of the agency’s dogs: K9 Jawaak. Officer Dustin Kaiser, Jawaak’s handler, accepted the gift from HACC President/CEO Libby Gierach and HACC Board of Directors Chair Jill Gerschutz.

K9 Jawaak, a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois, joined the police force in 2017. He is one of three K9s serving Hilliard.

On average, the Division’s K9 unit assists in 60 arrests per year, per team. Each team is used about 150 times per year, mostly for narcotic detection. The unit is often called upon by other law enforcement agencies throughout Ohio for assistance, and works closely with Hilliard City Schools in its dedication to keeping the buildings drug-free.
