Starting Nov. 2, Hilliard Express will provide free scheduled rides seven days a week to Hilliard residents over the age of 55.
The City of Hilliard and SHARE Mobility, a local microtransit company, have partnered to offer Hilliard Express, a two-month pilot senior transportation service.
The Hilliard Express will pick seniors up from their private homes or living communities and take them to popular destinations within Hilliard, including dining, shopping, entertainment, parks, and places of worship. Set locations such as specific restaurants and stores are available, but riders may request unique destinations within the city. SHARE’s software enables dynamic routing when scheduled 24-hours in advance via phone or email.
All Hilliard Express vehicles are equipped with professional drivers and access for wheelchairs. While on the shuttle, other riders may be picked up. COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced.
“The goal of this pilot program is to improve community access, enhance quality of life, and provide opportunities for social interaction for the older members of our community,” said City Manager Michelle Crandall. “This is a need among our growing population of seniors. If this pilot project is a success the Hilliard Express might become a permanent service to offer our seniors all the great things that Hilliard has to offer.”
Funding for this pilot program is being provided through funds available through the federal CARES Act.
To schedule a ride, seniors or their families can call (833) SHARE-33 or email email@example.com. Starting Nov. 16, seniors or a trusted caretaker may also book directly online at sharemobility.com/rider. View the available destinations below and map here.
