Arbor Day is an annual observance that celebrates the role of trees in our lives and promotes tree planting and care. As a formal holiday, it was first observed in 1872, in Nebraska thanks to the efforts of J. Sterling Morton. Quoting Mr. Morton, “Other holidays repose upon the past, but Arbor Day propose for the future.” The City of Hilliard annually celebrates Arbor Day with local students on the last Friday in April.
This year the tree to be planted is a “Hardy Rubber Tree,” graciously donated by Mr. Jack Johnston of Premier Plant Solutions (formerly Willoway Nursery Distribution Center), 6981 Scioto Darby Road.
