Pangio, Hales hired as new Recreation Supervisors

The City of Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department has two new faces as members of its full-time staff.

Two new staff members will be managing the City’s youth programming, camps, and adult and youth sports.

City of Hilliard Recreation and Parks has hired Nick Pangio and Tim Hales as the department’s newest recreation supervisors. The two will play important roles in Recreation and Parks as the department progresses toward the opening of The Well in mid-2025.

Pangio will oversee youth programming and camps, while Hales will manage adult and youth sports as part of the City’s expanding Recreation and Parks offerings.

Pangio will manage summer camps and preschool, youth, and family programs. He’ll also provide supervision and leadership for seasonal camp staff and part-time recreation aides and contractors.

“Serving the families of Hilliard and bringing them outstanding recreational programming is something I’m very passionate about,” Pangio said. “My priority is that both campers and staff feel safe and respected and that everyone has a great time at our summer camps. After all, this is a fun job!”

Most recently, Pangio served as Coordinator of Camps and Operations at The Ohio State University Department of Recreational Sports. A Worthington native, Pangio earned his bachelor’s degree from OSU and a master’s degree in sport and recreation management from Kent State University. In his free time, he loves spending time outdoors and trying out new coffee shops around town with friends.

Hales is familiar with the Hilliard community, having grown up here and graduating from Hilliard Darby High School. He served as a seasonal staff member for the Recreation and Parks Department on the ballfields grounds crew from 2018-2020. He graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in recreation management and most recently served as a recreation coordinator for the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District.

“The opportunity to come back home, serve my hometown, and see a lot of familiar faces is something I’m very excited about,” Hales said. “It was during my time here in the summer with the City of Hilliard that I fell in love with the recreation and parks industry, and now it’s my great pleasure to get to serve this community in a full-time capacity.”

Hales will manage staff and operations of the City’s indoor and outdoor youth and adult sports programs, leagues, and athletic facilities. This will include programs within The Well, the City’s new 105,000-square-foot recreation and wellness facility, and the new athletic complex, which encompasses two synthetic turf multi-use fields and 20 natural turf fields on the new campus adjacent to Municipal Park.

When not at work, Hales enjoys playing golf and ice hockey. He is a die-hard fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s also on the conference planning committee for the Ohio Parks and Recreation Association.
