State of the City is Strong

Economic development and business growth: both common themes of the State of the City Address given by Mayor Don Schonhardt. The City’s financial health remains strong with an unemployment rate under 3% and nearly 1,000 new jobs added or retained through incentives in 2017. Mayor Schonhardt explained the difference between income tax and property tax and how the City thrives on the income tax that is generated by jobs in Hilliard.

There is a lot to look forward to for Hilliard in 2018, including Hilliard Office Suites, Rock City Church, Mount Carmel Hilliard, the new Columbus Metropolitan Public Library and Graeter’s Ice Cream, just to name a few. Mayor Schonhardt also discussed the continued emphasis on reinvestment and redevelopment in Old Hilliard and planning for City-wide fiber network available for public and private use.

“We are well positioned to continue positive business development,” said Mayor Schonhardt. “Revenue growth is steady, and the city is doing well controlling its expenditures, which has allowed us to thrive fiscally,” he said.

Overall, the State of the City is strong, 2017 was a prosperous year for Hilliard, and the outlook is great for 2018.
