The City of Hilliard has invested more than $5 million, to date, to construct HiFiO, a 70-mile fiber optic network that creates more connections to broadband providers. The carrier-neutral fiber network is available to businesses, residents and schools, creating more competition among high-speed internet providers and resulting in cost savings for customers.
City Utilities
In addition to the extensive broadband fiber network, Hilliard City Lab companies can validate their concepts and ideas through access to City facilities such as sewers, traffic signal systems, splash pads, and more.
AI Sandbox
This “testing playground” allows companies to demonstrate its software and technology-focused products in a secure setting before investing in a traditional cloud provider. Businesses associated with Hilliard City Lab can experiment with proof-of-concept AI ideas and gain better understanding of the cost models when scaling to a larger provider. Our sandbox was created with contributions from Hilliard-based companies Ubihere and Big Kitty Labs.
The Ohio Manufacturing Innovation Center (OMIC) is a fully operational design and assembly center where students in STEM programs unite with experienced engineers to pursue careers in future-proof industries.
The internship program gives students real-life experience and provides industry with engineering and business solutions, as well as higher-qualified employment candidates.
OMIC is funded through the State of Ohio. Its interns currently work alongside several companies within Hilliard City Lab.
LoRaWAN
LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is a wireless protocol that connects devices to the internet. Usage of LoRaWAN in industrial spaces and smart cities like the City of Hilliard is growing because it’s an affordable long-range, bi-directional communication protocol with very low power consumption. Its devices can run for ten years on a small battery. Hilliard City Lab companies can take advantage of this scalable and secure network provided by the City of Hilliard.
