Hilliard City Lab Tech Incubator provides a high-tech ecosystem for Hilliard-based companies to test and prove their concepts with low risks involved. Hilliard City Lab companies gain access to specialized equipment and industry expertise in this fun, collaborative, and innovative environment.

Agile Ultrasonics builds robotic system attachments used by aerospace, automotive, and consumer component makers to shape and join composite materials. A recent project focuses on the demonstration of a robotic head that can be integrated into industry standard robotic manufacturing facilities

How we helped:

The company was awarded an HDC Innovation Grant for the purchase of robotic manufacturing equipment. They also used our Hilliard City Lab ecosystem to prototype new designs and products.

Augustwenty

Who they are:

This Hilliard-based software consulting and development firm used its expertise to prototype a new programming system that greatly improved the functionality of the popular splash pad at Hilliard’s Station Park. The previous system experienced issues in recent years, resulting in untimely reboots and numerous technical issues.

How we helped:

Augustwenty was awarded a $25,000 Innovation Grant from the Hilliard Development Corporation, working alongside City staff to improve the outdated technology behind the Downtown Hilliard splash pad. Their goal is to continue to enhance the product and eventually commercialize it for other public and provate Central Ohio splashpads.

Converge Technologies

Who they are:

A Hilliard-based commercial engineering firm supporting efficient commercialization of innovative technologies. In recent years, the City of Hilliard invested significant time and resources deploying employees and contractors to assess City-owned sidewalks for ADA compliance and safety hazards. Seeking a more efficient solution, City staff turned to Converge Technologies for assistance.

How we helped:

The Converge team worked with City staff to identify funding through an HDC Innovation Grant. In addition, gained access to City infrastructure to help develop a specialized push cart to streamline the sidewalk assessment process by measuring defects with specialized cameras and sensors.

Vanner by Havis

Who they are:

This company is a leading force in the transportation industry, specializing in power electronics conversion and system integration for commercial vehicles such as ambulances, work trucks, military vehicles, and transit buses. Vanner by Havis approached the City for a compact and portable high-voltage power supply to help develop electric vehicle commercial truck applications.

How we helped:

The Vanner by Havis team at the Hilliard-based plant worked alongside City staff to identify its needs, solutions, and long-term impacts. In the end, they were awarded a $25,000 Innovation Grant from the Hilliard Development Corporation to help purchase the equipment to further their work in the EV commercial truck industry.

IC3D

Who they are:

A Hilliard-based additive manufacturing company offering design, prototyping, and volume production services. IC3D is the only all-in-one software that produces fast, accurate and photorealistic 3D virtual prototypes or press-ready proofs in minutes.

How we helped:

The company was awarded an HDC Innovation Grant for a hopper feeder sustainability program. IC3D has also been granted access to City infrastructure to aid in product development and supported by City staff throughout the process.

Lighthouse Avionics

Who they are:

An aviation technology company working to revolutionize the emergency response industry. Using an autonomous drone and virtual control towers powered by an airspace tracking system, Lighthouse Avionics can deploy resources to reach any location and relay critical site information back to a central command center within minutes.

How we helped:

The company was awarded a $25,000 grant by the Hilliard Development Corporation to install three virtual control towers in the City of Hilliard for the project. They also utilized the City’s fiber-optic network and cellular network for communications, its buildings for radar placement, and camera network for airspace object identification.

LittleSeed

Who they are:

A Hilliard-based company developing creative technology solutions for the healthcare and education industries. With patients and learners in mind, Little Seed identified a need for a capital expenditure in small-scale ampule melting and scaling equipment for prototype testing.

How we helped:

The company was awarded an HDC Innovation Grant and granted access to various types of City infrastructure to help advance its products. They also consulted with City staff to help with networking, internships, and business development opportunities.

PlugOp

Who they are:

This local startup specializes in smart software solutions for electric vehicle (EV) charging that result in a more seamless experience for users. The City’s existing infrastructure for EV charging at public parking lots and municipal buildings was either broken or unreliable. PlugOp sought a testing ground for its technology to establish proof of concept and gather data to expand into the multi-family market.

How we helped:

PlugOp provided installation and maintenance of charging stations for the City of Hilliard at a discounted rate in exchange for access to data and a testing platform. They were awarded a $25,000 Innovation Grant and given access to City infrastructure to help advance its products.

Ubihere

Who they are:

This geospatial intelligence company creates innovative hardware and software solutions for intelligent business processes. Ubihere partnered with the City to improve Hilliard’s sanitary sewer system to address flooding and basement backups. With Ubihere technology, sensors are placed in manholes to measure water levels, pinpointing the blockage before a homeowner experiences a problem.

How we helped:

The City of Hilliard granted the Ubihere team access to City infrastructure for the sewer project, which helped refine its products. They were also awarded an HDC Innovation Grant and supported by City staff throughout the process.
