Council Vice President Tina Cottone was named City Council President during a special public meeting held at the Municipal Building Tuesday night.

Cottone has served as Council Vice President since January. The City of Hilliard’s Charter states that, “If the position of President is vacant, the Vice President shall assume that position until a new President is elected.”

Previous Council President Cynthia Vermillion resigned the presidency at Tuesday’s special meeting. Vermillion will retain her seat as an elected member of Council.

The main role of President is to serve as the presiding officer of all Council meetings, maintain order and decorum, and see that the Charter is observed in all Council proceedings.
