Hilliard Division of Police Officer Tony Agosta has been named a STAR of law enforcement.
Officer Agosta was recognized during the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office STAR Awards ceremony on Sept. 24.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, officers recognized with the STAR Award are considered the epitome of a law enforcement officer. Recipients demonstrate high ethical standards and good character and go above and beyond to serve residents within their jurisdiction and Franklin County.
STAR stands for Selflessness, Teamwork, Accountability and Respect.
“Officer Agosta exemplifies the characteristics of this award as he demonstrates selflessness, teamwork, accountability and respect every single day,” said Sgt. Suzanne Muraco, who nominated him for the award.
Agosta joined the Hilliard Division of Police in March 2011. Before joining the Division, he enlisted in the Ohio National Guard in 2005 as a military police officer. In 2008, he served a combat tour in Afghanistan as a machine gunner and rose to the rank of sergeant first class.
Since joining HPD, Agosta has taken on leadership roles as an officer first class and field training officer. He also serves as an instructor for active shooter scenarios, building searches, and firearms.
“Officer Agosta has proven time and time again he will always show up when needed and go above and beyond with everything he’s involved in,” Muraco said. “He wants every officer to have success in every part of their career.”
Agosta is also passionate about community safety. He serves as a CRASE (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) instructor, teaches firearms safety skills to the Hilliard Citizens Police Academy and Alumni Association, and assists with safety drills and active threat preparations for Hilliard City Schools.
“He is patient and kind when teaching officers or civilians new techniques and always adds a sense of humor when he can make someone smile,” Muraco added.
