Shade Tree Commission

The Shade Tree Commission consists of seven members, each serving four-year terms, who advise the City arborist/forester on landscaping issues and choose street trees for Hilliard streets.

Background

Ascher has been working as a certified arborist for the past 12 years in Central Ohio. He currently runs a small tree service as well as serves as the director of a non-for-profit with the mission of increasing urban tree cover.

Hilliard community service

He is extremely passionate about protecting urban tree cover in Hilliard. Ascher has been excited to work with a diverse group of community members making recommendations on tree-related matters in Hilliard.

Personal

He has two children who currently attend Ridgewood Elementary school.

Background

She has served as the volunteer coordinator for Friends of Goodale Park since 2019. Working to maintain Columbus’s oldest park led her to want to help Hilliard and protect trees in her own neighborhood.

Hilliard community service

She also volunteers at her children’s school and in the neighborhood garden.

Personal

She enjoys gardening, playing music, horticulture, and being a soccer mom. 

Andy Teater was elected to Hilliard City Council in January 2018. Before his election, Andy was a member of Hilliard City School Board for 12 years. He served as board president for three years and vice president for four years. Andy was recognized as the 2017 “Friend of Education” by the Hilliard Education Association.

Andy and his wife of 30 years, Phyllis, have three children who are graduates of Hilliard City Schools. Rachel is a graduate of The Ohio State University and currently a graduate student at Vanderbilt University. Dan attends Anderson University and Sarah attends The Ohio State University.

Andy is an active member of Meadow Park Church of God and has been an Ohio High School Football official for 30 years.

In his professional career, Andy owns Teater Relocation Services and has been involved with relocation assistance for the past 31 years, working with families and businesses that have been displaced by public projects.

His term runs through December 31, 2025.

Meetings

The commission meets at 6 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Operations Building, 3790 Municipal Way. All meetings are open to the public.
