‘Think BiG’ in Hilliard: Schools, AWS partner on enhanced classrooms

Amazon teaming with schools

Amazon Web Services (AWS) leaders from throughout the world gathered in Hilliard Thursday as members of the company’s Inclusion and Outreach Global Team toured the “Think BiG Space” at Hilliard City Schools.

AWS InCommunities has helped build and support 17 of the enhanced classrooms within the local school district. There, students and teachers are encouraged to “Think Big” as they explore cloud computing to solve problems using creativity and imagination. Students can cultivate their interest in science, technology, engineering, and math outside of a classroom environment.

The AWS Think BiG Space is an integrated environment where everything from the furniture, technology, and curriculum work together to support interactive hands-on learning. The space prioritizes personalized learning to engage students of all ages, interests, and abilities.

AWS has also collaborated with Hilliard City Schools on STEAM curriculum and events such as Girls Tech Day, AWS Tech Week, and Young STEM Initiative, as well as on professional development initiatives. AWS has also provided access to STEAM experts and members of AWS’ workforce for various STEM workshops, career conversations, and events.

Participating from the City of Hilliard were Duane Powell, Director of Information Technology; David Meadows, Director of Economic Development; and Angela Zody, Economic Development Administrator.

“This is just one way the Hilliard City Lab is in action to support collaboration among government, education providers, and businesses to solve real-world problems,” said Meadows. “We’re grateful AWS is supporting students as they develop new solutions and ideas as Hilliard City Schools prepares students to be Ready for Tomorrow.”
