It’s time to renew Hilliard’s green electric aggregation program.
Residents of the City of Hilliard will soon be receiving letters from Dynergy overviewing the extension of the electric aggregation program, which is renewing from September 2025 to September 2026.
What you should know:
- City of Hilliard residents are automatically enrolled in the 100% renewably sourced electric portion of the City’s aggregation program unless they have an existing contract with another electric provider or have registered on the PUCO Do Not Aggregate List.
- Residents will receive a fixed rate of 9.59 cents per kWh for the renewably sourced electricity through the September 2026 meter read.
- Residents may choose to opt in to the traditional (Brown) energy rate of 9.33 cents per kWh as part of the City’s aggregation program by calling (888) 682-2170.
- The rates for the City’s aggregation program remain lower than the rates that AEP has announced for electricity. AEP’s current standard market rate is $0.1052/kWh.
- The deadline to opt out of electric aggregation is Aug. 29.
- Residents will continue to receive one monthly bill from the local utility, AEP Ohio. Dynegy will show as a line item for the supply portion on the bill.
- Those who wish to not be contacted about the aggregation program in the future, and wish to permanently remove themselves from the pool of eligible aggregation customers should register on the PUCO Do Not Aggregate List.
This aggregation contract period reflects a price increase from the previous fixed price of 6.99 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) – a reflection of broader changes in the market for electricity.
“The City is pleased to once again offer a fixed rate renewably sourced electricity program to our residents and small businesses at a rate lower than AEP,” said Assistant City Manager Dan Ralley. “Although the rate remains below the market rate, it does have a higher cost per kilowatt hour than our previous aggregation program due to general market conditions and higher costs from energy providers.
Electric aggregation history
In 2022, Hilliard voters approved a green electric aggregation program for the community. In 2023, HIlliard City Council voted to have the City contract with Dynegy Energy Services as the aggregation provider.
The goals of the program are to promote the use of electricity produced by clean, sustainable sources and to get the lowest possible bulk rate the City can negotiate for sustainably sourced electricity for residents and businesses.
The program allows the City to leverage the power of aggregation to negotiate a favorable bulk rate for sustainably sourced electricity on behalf of residents, businesses, and other organizations.
This eco-friendly program can source electricity generated by sustainable methods, such as solar and wind. The source of this electricity also can include the purchase of renewable energy certificates – basically, buying credits for renewable energy generated elsewhere in the country.
