New water meters coming to some Hilliard properties

Hilliard residents and businesses served by Columbus water service may soon be contacted about a water meter replacement project.

Beginning in mid-June 2026, Columbus Water & Power and its contractor, VEPO Metering, will begin replacing water meters throughout the area as part of the city’s Enhanced Meter Project.

Water meters measure how much water a home or business uses. Because most meters are located inside homes and businesses, customers will need to schedule an appointment for the replacement.

Customers may receive a mailed notification from VEPO Metering with instructions for scheduling an appointment. Residents may also choose to receive text and phone reminders about upcoming appointments.

The new meters are expected to improve customer service by providing more accurate water usage information and future features such as daily usage tracking and earlier leak detection.

There is no cost for installation. In most cases, the new meter will be installed in the same location as the existing meter. Water service may be temporarily shut off during the installation process.

VEPO Metering employees will wear company uniforms and carry City of Columbus contractor identification badges.

For additional information about the project, please visit the Columbus Water & Power Enhanced Meter Project webpage.
