Berry Good News: Rumpke to accept new material for recycling

Clear clamshell recycling

An exciting change is coming to the City of Hilliard’s recycling regulations.

Beginning Nov. 1, 2024, residents of Franklin County will be able to recycle clear plastic containers with their normal recycling. Examples include carry-out, fruit/berry, lettuce, and egg clamshells. These containers will be accepted as part of the curbside and Rumpke Drop-Off recycling programs in Franklin County.

Residents should follow standard recycling practices with this new material, removing all food and liquid and drying the container completely. Lids and labels may stay on the containers.

While clear, plastic containers will be accepted, plastic carryout containers that are not clear will not be accepted. Other unacceptable items include plastic bags, wrap or film; batteries, propane tanks, or other flammables; hoses, wires, chains, electronics, or other tanglers; and foam cups, plates, or food containers.

As always, paper and cardboard, plastic or aluminum cups, plastic bottles, tubs or jugs, glass bottles or jars, metal cans, and cartons are accepted.
