City Celebrates Aileen Burnside’s 30 Years of Service

Aileen Burnside captured during her clap out on her last day with the Rec and Parks department.

City of Hilliard staff gathered this week for a heartfelt “clap out” to celebrate Aileen Burnside as she clocked out for the last time at the community center.

Aileen dedicated 30 years of service to the City, but her story began long before that. Originally, Aileen was a pool patron who had some suggestions about revamping the swim lessons program. The City did more than listen to her feedback. She was hired as a part-time employee in the Recreation and Parks Department.

Aileen served in several roles with the Department. Primarily, she worked as a swim instructor, then moved on to be the site supervisor for swim lessons, all while doing part-time work with the parks year-round.

She worked at the front desk in the community center, assisted in programs and events, and ensured the cleanliness of our parks and outdoor facilities.

Hayley Bush and Kristan Turner, two of Hilliard’s current recreation supervisors, worked with Aileen since they were 15-year-old lifeguards.

“We directly reported to her for many years,” Kristan said. “Years later, she even taught my kid in swim lessons.”

Aileen was originally Hayley’s supervisor. By the end, their roles had switched, and Aileen was reporting to Hayley.

Aileen’s dedication to the City is unmatched, both in her time with aquatics and in her interactions with Hilliard residents, Hayley noted.

“She consistently goes above and beyond to foster genuine connections and friendships in the community,” Hayley said. “Everyone knows her and loves her.”
