Healthy Hilliard: Your Guide to Fitness at The Well

What exactly does fitness mean at The Well? With a variety of classes, two fitness floors, two gyms, a walking and adventure track, and a lap pool, there are many exciting fitness options to choose from at Hilliard’s new Recreation and Wellness Center.

Here’s a breakdown of what you need to know:

  • Many exercise classes are structured monthly and offer drop-in options for those who can’t commit to a full month of class.
  • Other classes are registration-only and do not allow drop-ins.
  • Monthly and registration-only classes are open to everyone, members or not, though membership is encouraged (more on this below!).
  • Certain classes are free to Well members! Non-members can join these classes by paying the standard resident or non-resident fee.
  • Personal and semi-private training options are available for those wanting a small group or even one-on-one assistance.
  • The Well has a range of fitness spaces open to members for use outside of programs.

Let’s start with the monthly fitness classes. Unlike our standard programs, these classes are offered on a month-by-month basis. They have either a monthly registration option, for those wanting to commit to the full month, or a drop-in fee per class.

Monthly registration is the most cost-effective option and will also guarantee your spot in class. We welcome drop-in participants, though availability for individual classes is not guaranteed and may vary.

Registration for these programs opens on the third Monday of each month for the upcoming month. Monthly registration closes after the first class of the month for each program.

As part of our commitment to the community, these classes are open to everyone, members and non-members alike. Annual members enjoy a discounted rate on program fees.

Other select programs are registration-only and do not allow for drop-ins. These programs, workshops, or seminars follow the same registration structure and dates as all other standard programming, so there’s no need to add new dates to your calendar!

These registration-only programs are open to anyone, member or not, and participants can register either online or in person.

Certain classes are free to Well members! Members must register either online or in person for the class. Registration opens 72 hours in advance and closes at the start of class. Non-members can join these classes by paying the standard resident or non-resident drop-in fee.

Can’t find a class that’s the perfect fit? Our Personal or Semi-Private training options are ideal for those looking for one-on-one fitness assistance. These training options focus on your unique fitness goals through individualized attention and expert guidance. Each workout is tailored to your needs, from strength building to mobility and more. Semi-Private training offers the same personalized approach for two to four participants, perfect for those who prefer to work out with a friend.

More information about our trainers and how to schedule a Private or Semi-Private session can be found at our Welcome Desk.

The Well also offers a variety of fitness spaces for members to use individually. Our two fitness floors have a range of equipment for a choose-your-own-adventure fitness journey. On the first floor, find strength training equipment, including weight machines, dumbbells, barbells, and benches. The second floor has a suite of cardio equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, Stairmasters, bikes and NuSteps.

Our two gyms, the Main Gym and MAC Gym, can be used by members during Open Gym availability. The two gyms can be separated into a variety of courts, for basketball, volleyball, pickleball, and more sport options.

Circling above the two gyms is our 1/10-mile walking and adventure track. Ten laps around the track equals one mile and the track is perfect for those looking for low-impact exercise year-round. Jogging is permitted on the outside lanes. The direction of walking will change depending on the day.

Check out the turf area by the track that features functional fitness exercise equipment.

For members looking for more low-impact activities, our lap pool offers a space for water-based fitness. Depending on its open schedule, this space is perfect for those looking to swim laps or enjoy other water-fitness activities in our eight-lane pool.
