The City of Hilliard Division of Police is giving away free steering wheel locks to Kia owners due to the rising number of car thefts involving certain Kia models nationwide.
The anti-theft devices are available at no cost to those living in the City of Hilliard or Norwich Township who own a Kia. Even if a vehicle is broken into, this will help immobilize it.
In many cases, criminals have inserted a USB cable into the column where the ignition was removed. Vehicles without a push-button start are vulnerable to this technique.
The locks are available to Hilliard residents who own a Kia manufactured between 2011-2021 that do not have a proximity key entry (key fob) or a push-button start.
The owner of the vehicle must bring the Kia when picking up the device and provide proof of registration. Only one device per vehicle.

Other tips to protect your vehicle:
- Park in a garage, if possible, or well-lit areas.
- Keep doors always locked.
- Remove valuables from the car.
- Activate alarm systems.
- Report any suspicious activity to law enforcement. Officers continue to prioritize monitoring for these crimes.
