It is hard to believe it has already been one year since The Well officially opened in Hilliard. On Sept. 18, 2025, the community gathered to unveil our new recreation and wellness center on Cosgray Road, a facility designed with Hilliard’s wants, needs, and dreams in mind.
From thousands of memberships sold to countless City programs and events held within its doors, The Well has already made a large-scale impact on our community. But how have individual Hilliard residents connected with The Well in their daily lives?
For one Hilliard family, The Well is more than just a community space; it’s a place for the kids to explore their favorite activities, for the parents to stay active, and one more reason why Hilliard is such a special place to live.
The Rumer family joined The Well last year as founding members.
“We connect with the facility in a lot of different ways,” say parents Matt and Ashley. “The Well offers so many different things that we can do depending on what we’re feeling on any given day.”
For their children, Emma, 10, and Charlie, 8, the options for activity are endless.
“If we are feeling active, we like to use the Main Gym. Charlie plays football, soccer, and basketball, so we go in there to shoot hoops and practice together,” said Ashley. “We also use the MAC Gym, where Emma works on her dance routines using a small speaker.”
The Well is just as valuable for the parents.
“I especially enjoy getting up to the track to walk and connect with the family while taking in the energy of the building,” says Ashley.
Matt, who works remotely, agrees.
“I enjoy ending my week on Fridays by working from The Well. I’ll grab a cup of coffee from Alchemy and set up upstairs for the morning.”
Overall, it’s the atmosphere of The Well that sets the facility apart.
“It’s a pretty energetic environment and a really nice way for the family to end the week — seeing friendly, familiar faces while getting stuff done,” said Ashley. “We appreciate all the work and thoughtfulness that went into the space itself. It’s a beautiful place with a lot of natural light, which makes it a fun place to be when we are simply spending time together.”
Over the past year, the Rumer family has truly gotten the most out of their membership. But one thing they didn’t expect was how valuable The Well would be during the colder months.
“Having these indoor spaces has been extremely nice, especially in the winter when we can’t get outside. It gives us a consistent place to go and enjoy our activities regardless of the weather,” said Matt. “It has been an extremely pleasant surprise and a great value to us to have that social hub when the weather is bad.”
For those thinking about joining The Well, Matt and Ashley emphasize the holistic nature of the facility.
“It’s not really just about having a place to work out or swim. It’s about things the whole family can do together, with first-class amenities,” said Ashley. “Whether you are hanging out and reading a book, walking the track, getting something to eat, or playing games like foosball and basketball, it’s simply a good place for the family to escape to when we need it.”
The Well is just one facet of why the family — who moved to the community nine years ago — fell in love with Hilliard.
“Hilliard is a very thoughtful community. We ride our bikes to The Well or take the bike trails to soccer practice and Old Hilliard to meet friends for food and entertainment,” said Matt. “Whether it’s the Fall Festival or the bands on Thursday nights at Celebration at the Station, we just love being part of it.”
Why is The Well such a special part of Hilliard? The answer is simple.
“It’s just a good place with good people.”
