MORPC Conducts Annual Trail Counts

People riding their bikes down a path

Those who frequent the Heritage Rail Trail might see people with clipboards walking between now and June 5.

These volunteers with Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) are counting pedestrians and cyclists as part of an ongoing effort to better understand bicycling and walking trends in the region.

Bicycle and pedestrian counts help MORPC measure the use, safety, and popularity of non-motorized transportation. Conducting these counts helps to quantify the positive benefits of trails, track changes in non-motorized activity over time, and prioritize alternative transportation projects such as bike lanes, sidewalks, or multi-use paths.

MORPC is currently seeking volunteers to assist with manual counts this spring. Those interested in helping can sign up here.
