Free tree giveaway coming this fall

Fall leaves of a red maple tree.

The City of Hilliard is partnering with Amazon and the Arbor Day Foundation to plant and distribute 190 trees throughout the Hilliard community. Of those, 100 trees will be given free to Hilliard residents.

The tree giveaway will take place Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at the City of Hilliard Public Service Building, 3790 Municipal Way.

Residents must have reserved a tree in advance. Trees will be available only to residents who have registered in advance. The giveaway is limited to one tree per household.

The following tree varieties will be available:

    • 20 Matador Maple

    • 20 Red Maple

    • 20 Eastern Redbud

    • 20 Sunburst Honeylocust

    • 20 Wildfire Black Gum

All trees will come in 15-gallon containers. Residents cannot reserve a specific tree variety. Tree varieties will be distributed at the giveaway while supplies last.

Planting 90 more trees

In addition to the 100 trees being distributed to residents, volunteers will plant 90 trees at Roger A. Reynolds Municipal Park, Darby Glen Park and Tinapple Park.

The Arbor Day Foundation has helped plant more than 500 million trees in communities and forests across more than 60 countries. The global nonprofit works with corporate partners and local tree-planting organizations to connect communities and forests in need of trees with resources and support.
