The City of Hilliard’s Code Enforcement team ensures compliance with a broad range of public health and safety regulations, including zoning, health, parking, public nuisance, illegal signs, and other City codes.
The goal of the City’s compliance measures is to ensure the overall quality of life in the community by making residential and corporate property owners aware of potential code violations.
Residents and business owners can help the City maintain the high quality of Hilliard’s neighborhood and commercial districts by reporting suspected violations.
When Code Enforcement receives a complaint by phone, in-person, in writing, or online, our team will confirm receipt of the complaint (if possible.) They then investigate before any official action is taken. The City also may initiate an investigation on its own.
If no violation is observed, no further action is taken. If a violation is discovered, a violation notice may be issued.
When a person or property owner is found to be responsible for a violation, the City notifies them by letter, issues a citation, or notifies them by phone. As a first step, the property owner is given an opportunity to correct the situation. If the violation is not corrected, the City may take additional steps.
Code Enforcement team members are available to discuss and explain the specifics of any violation, including any extensions of time needed to address the issue.
