City of Hilliard Division of Police Sgt. Jared Zellers and several dispatchers who serve the City were recently recognized for #AnsweringTheCall.
Sgt. Zellers and four NRECC Communications Technicians (Jess Posey, Rita Distelhorst, Brett Goldstein and Ben Karns) were recently recognized by the Kyle Plush Answer the Call Foundation for their coordinated work responding to a 911 call earlier this year.
The caller was a woman concerned about her brother, who was confused and driving in circles on the highway.
The team used phone and traffic camera information from several central Ohio communities to safely locate the man. At one point. Sgt. Zellers was able to get the man on the phone and convince him to stop driving. Once located, he was provided with the medical attention he needed.
“Your team went above and beyond the call of duty to use all of the tools in your toolbox,” said a foundation spokesperson during a presentation ceremony. “You didn’t hesitate to get other agencies involved in your search and you didn’t give up. You responded to this call as if it were your loved one calling for help.”
Each of the recipients received a challenge coin that states, “Answer the call to be your best self every day.
