City Reviewing Guidelines for Senior Center Reopening

Due to COVID-19, the Hilliard Senior Center remains closed for the safety of our patrons. We continue to work with Franklin County Public Health, Ohio Department of Health, and the Ohio Office of Aging to determine how and when we can safely resume operations while following State of Ohio guidelines.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our members and staff, so meeting all State guidelines will mean new safety protocols, limited programming, and modified services. Our staff is working to identify new activities for our members that are also COVID-safe. We will notify members by email, phone call, website, and social media when re-opening plans are finalized.

For now, we will continue to offer our Drive Through Lunch program, Drive-Up Bingo, and other socially-distanced programming options. Call (614) 876-0747 or visit hilliardohio.gov/classes-camps/ for information on current program offerings.

Whether chatting with friends, playing a game of pickleball or attending a fitness class, the Phyllis A. Ernst Senior Center offers opportunities for active Hilliard agers 55 and up.

An annual fee of just $15 gives members access to special events, educational speakers, exciting trips and regular activities including fitness and sports, arts and crafts, cards, and home-style lunch. Members also get free income tax preparation from AARP, health checks, and screenings.

Membership is free for those age 90 and up.

Reflections

Seniors, we want to hear your stories!  Register for a time slot, and share stories about your life – Where you’re from, where you’ve lived, where you’ve worked, your family history, your kids and grandkids, your hobbies and projects, and anything else you want to tell us about!  We want to learn about the rich histories of our seniors!  We will record the stories and compile them to share with your family and the community.  Currently all interviews are being conducted over the phone.  Interviews can be scheduled on Fridays at 10 a.m. or 12 p.m.

Kind Care Call

Do you know a local senior who lives alone and might need someone to “check in” on them during the coronavirus emergency?  Sign them up for the City of Hilliard Kind Care Call program! City staff will call these seniors on scheduled days to ensure seniors are safe, or to just chat with them during a time they might feel alone and isolated. If the senior cannot be contacted, Hilliard Police will check on them in person. Email Amy Van Huffel at avanhuffel@hilliardohio.gov or call (614) 876-0747 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays to schedule a Kind Care Call.

Hilliard Express

The City of Hilliard and SHARE Mobility, a local microtransit company, have partnered to offer Hilliard Express.

Hilliard Express will provide free scheduled rides seven days a week to Hilliard residents over the age of 55.

The Hilliard Express will pick seniors up from their private homes or living communities and take them to popular destinations within Hilliard, including dining, shopping, entertainment, parks, and places of worship. Set locations such as specific restaurants and stores are available, but riders may request unique destinations within the city. SHARE’s software enables dynamic routing when scheduled 24-hours in advance via phone or email.

All Hilliard Express vehicles are equipped with professional drivers and access for wheelchairs. While on the shuttle, other riders may be picked up. COVID-19 guidelines will be strictly enforced.

To schedule a ride, seniors or their families can call (833) SHARE-33 or email dispatch@ridewithshare.com. Seniors or a trusted caretaker may also book directly online at sharemobility.com/rider. View the available destinations on the flyer below and map here.
