Hilliard has a lot going on this summer, including some great community events to celebrate Independence Day!

Check below for the new Independence Day events, new Rec and Parks programs, and great events planned for June and July!

Summer Fun Activities

Ages: 4-6 and 7-10

Cost: $20 Resident | $24 Non-resident

Bust your boredom with our weekly themed bags, which may include a science experiment, art projects, snack recipe, game ideas, and more!

Registration for each week’s bag closes seven days before pick-up day. Pick up your bag from the Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive, between 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on the Wednesday of the week which you registered. Stay in your car, call (614) 876-5200, and we will bring your bag to you.

Senior Pen Pals

Through July 31

Ages: 4 – 17

Register here.

Make a new friend and practice your penmanship while social distancing. We will connect you with a senior citizen who is interested in writing back-and-forth. Register online, then mail a letter and/or picture to: Pen Pal, Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Dr., Hilliard, Ohio 43026.


Register any time June 8 – Aug. 17

Ages: 11 & up (parental assistance strongly recommended)

Cost: $100 (four boxes)

Help! Someone has infiltrated our ranks and stolen our summer camp awards AND Howard the Duck! Each week, investigate 10 clues that will bring you closer to cracking the case. Four episodes will be mailed. This screen-free program is designed for children over age 11 to solve WITH parents. Beware! Codebreaking, critical thinking, and abstract creativity are required. The expert detectives who solve this case will receive a certificate and patch.


Registration begins June 10 at 9 a.m.

Ages: 6-8, 9-11

Clubhouse Rec is designed to provide a safe, fun atmosphere for school-age children to socialize. Daily activities include outdoor play, games, and a craft (with social distancing in mind). Participants are asked to bring their own snack and water bottle. Masks must be worn indoors and anytime social distancing is not possible. Temperatures will be checked daily at drop off. Clubhouse Rec follows the Ohio Guidelines for Youth Day Camps.


Drive-through Senior Lunches

June 16 – Aug. 27

Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 a.m.

Drive under the portico at the Hilliard Senior Center and pick up a hot lunch. Please make a reservation by 4 p.m. the preceding day.

Meals cost $5 each. Meal tickets are available at the Community Center office. A meal ticket may be purchased for three meals for $15, six meals for $29, or 12 meals for $58 with check, VISA, Discover, or MasterCard. You may also pay online or call to add a balance to your account.

Fortnite! Pizza! Free tournament! We are teaming up with Game Arena to throw Hilliard FREE Fortnite tournaments!

Rules and a code for a pizza discount will be emailed after registration. Discord is needed for check-in and verification. Winners will receive a gift card for pizza from a local restaurant. You learn more here.

Summer Fun Events

June 26 | COVID-19 Time Capsule

Remember the activities and challenges you had living through this nation’s pandemic. Complete our COVID-19 time capsule (created by Long Creations) and submit it to the Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department, where we will store all of them in a chest until July 4, 2025, when we will display them at our annual Freedom Fest for attendees to view and remember how our community and nation came together as one to fight against COVID-19. Email us at recandparks@hilliardohio.gov or drop off your final product at the Hilliard Community Center, 3800 Veterans Memorial Drive, where we will preserve your masterpiece.

July 10 | Souper Canned Up Virtual 5K

For the first time ever, the City of Hilliard is hosting a virtual 5K! Run in the Souper Canned Up 5K Virtual Charity Run and help support the Hilliard Food Pantry as they help provide for those impacted by COVID-19.

Escape from being “canned up” during the quarantine with this “virtual run/walk” ANYTIME between July 10-12.

Run/walk anytime and ANYWHERE (sidewalks, paths, even your basement treadmill!) while completing 3.1 miles and practicing social distancing. Your participation will help raise funds to improve the well-being of our community by providing food and support to those in need.

Registration closes on Friday, July 3. Shirts will be mailed to the address provided during your registration process. You’ll receive your T-shirt and medal via mail prior to Friday, July 10.

Proceeds from this event will be donated to the Hilliard Food Pantry.

Gather the family, load your car with blankets and snacks, and join us for a throwback drive-in movie Experience in July and August! You can register here.

Park in the lot in front of the Community/Senior Center. the film starts at 9:15 p.m. with Tropical Chill Food Truck opening at 8:30 p.m.
