HPD pays tribute to fallen officers; reflects on loss of Officer Sean Johnson five years ago today

Each May, Hilliard Division of Police pays tribute to fallen officers across the state of Ohio.

Last year, 264 officers died in the line of duty and 173 law enforcement officers died by suicide in 2020. Today, we’re giving recognition to those we’ve lost in Ohio since last May. To those who serve, we are so grateful for you every day. To those who gave it all, we promise to never forget you or your sacrifice.

Today also marks five years since the horrible day we lost Officer Sean Johnson in the line of duty. May 19, 2016 is a day the City of Hilliard will never forget. It was also the day we truly learned how it felt for a community to wrap its arms around us.

“He was a person that everybody got a long with in the department,” HPD Sergeant Chad Wood reflected. “You knew he would always have your back too.”

The City will never forget Officer Johnson and the impact he made on HPD. Our thoughts continue to stay with Sean’s family — especially his two children.
