The Hilliard Senior Citizen Hall of Fame committee is proud to add two new members. Marilyn Patton and John Shary (posthumous) have been honored for their lifetime of service, personal achievement, and positive image of aging as the 2022 inductees to the Hilliard Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.

This is the 34th year for the award, with the annual induction ceremony set for Wednesday, Sept. 28 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Join us for a reception in their honor from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and a ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Hilliard Senior Center, 3810 Veterans Memorial Drive, Hilliard, Ohio.

John Shary is a posthumous inductee to the 2022 Hilliard Senior Citizen Hall of Fame.

Patton, 93, is credited with having a positive image of aging and remains active in the community. She helps neighbors by providing transportation to the food pantry and works at the Franklin County Fair. Patton is a regular member at the Hilliard Senior Center, where she facilitates a popular craft class and organizes the weekly Bingo game.

She also displays a heart for service by setting tables for the Tuesday and Thursday meals at the Senior Center. Additionally, Patton continues to volunteer many hours for the American Legion and the Hilliard Moose Lodge.

For many years, John Shary was an active member of the Hilliard Senior Center and a valued member of the community. He served as an officer for “Happiness Club,” chairman of “Bucks for the Bus” campaign, and also helped facilitate pickleball and bridge games at the Hilliard Senior Center.

Shary enjoyed helping others in the Hilliard community. He volunteered many hours reading to the visually impaired, working at the food bank and Material Assistance Providers, and serving alongside numerous other service organizations.

Honored for a lifetime of service, personal achievement, and a positive image of aging, one or two senior citizens are inducted to the Hilliard Senior Citizen Hall of Fame biennially. Nominees may be living or deceased and should exemplify how senior citizens contribute to their communities and respond creatively to retirement.
