Downtown Hilliard Getting a Facelift This Spring

Starting in late March, the City will perform infrastructure improvements in Downtown Hilliard that will improve safety, result in better stormwater drainage, and produce a better experience for residents and visitors.

There are three main phases to this capital improvement project:

    • Modifications to Main Street and Center Street

    • Resurfacing of Main Street

    • Sidewalk repairs to Wayne Street

The work will require several closures and detours in the coming months, with completion expected by the end of June. Local access will be maintained to businesses on Main Street near Center Street, and directional signs will be posted during the closure period.

What You Need to Know

    • For two weeks starting March 25, there will be daily closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main and Center street intersection to install underground storm sewer. Motorists will be detoured along Franklin, Columbia, and Norwich streets. This project also will include storm water drainage improvements, curb ramp and crosswalk improvements with a flashing beacon, and a permanent closure of Center Street between Main and Wayne streets. Motor vehicles have been restricted from this block between Hilliard’s Station Park and Center Street Market since 2021. The block will remain open to bicycle and pedestrian traffic after this spring’s improvements are completed.

    • On April 8, a 14-day closure will take place to reconstruct the Main and Center streets intersection and repair railroad track pavement. The same detour will apply, with motorists accessing Franklin, Columbia, and Norwich streets.

    • Starting in June, there will be rolling closures for a resurfacing of Main Street with curb and pavement repairs. Detours will vary based on progress, with the majority of this work taking place during overnight hours. This project will include installation of a sidewalk on the northwest side of Wayne Street from Madison Street to Franklin Street. The sidewalk addition will not require road closures.
