All four sworn members of the Hilliard Division of Police command staff have graduated from the final installment of a prestigious police executive and leadership training series, a testament to the agency’s effort to continue professional development.
Lieutenant Doug Lightfoot, who oversees the agency’s patrol operations, recently completed the Certified Law Enforcement Executive (CLEE) program presented by the Ohio Law Enforcement Foundation and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police.
Lightfoot joins HPD’s Chief Robert Fisher, Deputy Chief Eric Grile and Lieutenant Ron Clark as a CLEE graduate. At this time, every HPD supervisor is enrolled in the three-part training program.
CLEE is an intensive 14-month program is for police officers who are at the executive level and includes master’s-level work on organizational leadership, strategic planning, staffing analysis, risk management and interpersonal skills.
Before enrolling into CLEE, an officer must have completed the Supervisor Training and Education Program (STEP), a first-level program for newly-promoted officers, and the Police Executive Leadership College (PELC), a second-level program geared to develop dynamic, visionary leaders to effectively serve and protect communities.
Professional development is a priority at Hilliard police, said Chief Fisher.
“Enhancing and developing leadership skills is key to a successful organization,” said Fisher. “Education is a never-ending process, and investing in professional development helps us prepare for the challenges of the 21st century.”
