The cruiser was crammed. And then some.
More than 1,000 winter weather items were donated to Hilliard City Schools Dec. 16 as part of the City of Hilliard’s Cram the Cruiser event.
The event was a coordinated effort between the Hilliard Division of Police and the Hilliard Recreation and Parks Department to collect new winter coats, gloves, scarves, and sweatpants to “cram” a cruiser full. All collected items will be distributed as needed to K-12 students at Hilliard City Schools.
Due to the large response, two vehicles were used to transport the items to Beacon Elementary, Avery Elementary and JW Reason Elementary. Students assisted officers with bringing the items into their schools.
“We’re proud to know our community, and knowing our community also means knowing when someone needs a little help,” said Chief of Police Robert Fisher. “Today we’re confident every child in the district who needs a coat will receive one.”
Hilliard’s Cram the Cruiser was generously sponsored by BMW, Coffee Connections, Credit Union of Ohio, HealthMarkets, KEMBA Financial, Renovo Fitness, Rita’s Italian Ice, and Scioto Orthodontics. Additionally, Northwest Bible Church and Primrose School at Mill Run provided bulk donations.
